About

Statement

I am a self-taught visual artist working in mixed media and collage. I work intuitively with little regards to rules. I like to let the process guide me. I see it as improvisation. Like a musician jamming with other musicians, I let what unfolds on the substrate guide or redirect me. The various mediums I use is my instrument that helps me experiment, resolve, and create my work. I love working with collage elements. I use my own hand painted papers, art papers, book pages, and cut up magazine images to cut, shape, layer, and texturize my work. Combined with acrylic paint, watercolor crayons, ink, pencils, and more, these all become the ingredients that help make the final image.

BIO

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and after moving around the country, I currently reside in Fairhope, Alabama. I am a completely self-taught artist working in mixed media and collage. While I have often been engaged in various art and music endeavors over the years, many obstacles, both personal and outside, resulted in my never fully committing myself. However, around 2011 I tapped into a reinvigorated creative energy that had me refocusing my artistic efforts like never before.

I create my own hand painted papers and along with various art and found papers, I cut, glue, and layer the pieces on to a substrate that has also been worked with various mediums.

Vibrant colors, and layered collage elements dominate my work. Whether it’s my houses and trees, urban and rural landscapes, or my abstract work, vivd colors and textures are at play.

I’ve also started a new collection of pieces I call my “Human Bird Series.” In this series I combine my mixed media explorations with a more traditional cut and paste collage approach.

I am an ongoing exhibiting member of the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, Al. In 2013 I received an Award of Merit at the Eastern Shore Art Center Members’ Juried Show.
